Abstract :
This paper presents a novel integrated multimicroelectrode array for monitoring extracellular neuronal activity in vitro. This device is being designed to alleviate problems with conventional thin film multielectrode arrays on glass plates in terms of performance, reproducibility, cost of manufacturing and ease of use. The prototype being developed at the University of Virginia uses standard scalable CMOS twin-metal twin-poly technology, and some post-processing done in-house. It features on-chip signal conditioning circuitry to provide pre-amplification as a first step towards complete integration of all signal processing on one device.
