Abstract
In this paper, a printed fat dipole fed by a tapered microstrip balun is proposed. This antenna provides very wide impedance bandwidth of more than 90% (VSWR<2) and little squint radiation patterns. Additionally, we present an antenna design using a microwave absorber to obtain stable radiation patterns across the entire impedance bandwidth. The time-domain EM simulator Microwave Studio 3.4 was used to predict the antenna performance. Details of the proposed antenna and experimental results are discussed.
