Abstract :
We propose a novel mathematical model for the soft handoff in CDMA digital cellular systems. Utilizing the proposed model, we can characterize the soft handoff phenomena in terms of the probability distribution function of the total sojourn time in the soft handoff region of the given cell during a channel holding time. The results can be applied to estimating the soft handoff traffic in various cellular environments to vary cell areas and user mobility parameters
