Abstract :
Satellite systems designed for long-term operation in a geosynchronous orbit require communications payload components that have been extensively tested to reveal the long-term reliability and performance drift. This paper describes accelerated life tests performed on L-band Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters and 20-W Linearized Solid State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) which were qualified for a satellite payload application. The test techniques relied heavily on automated measurement and data storage for statistical analysis. The paper summarizes the test methods, life test results, and implications for other types of subsystem reliability testing.
