Abstract
Synthesizer phase noise requirements for FSK microwave radios have been characterized using signal to noise ratio measurement at system level of the radio. Test results show that, close in (less than 10 KHz offset from the carrier frequency) phase noise has little effect to the system¿s bit error rate performance. Instead, it is the far away (10 KHz to the Nyquist frequency) phase noise that contributes to the system bit error rate performance.
