Abstract :
The author describes the transition from traditional, after the fact, workmanship inspection by quality assurance department inspectors to preventive inspection by the operators who assemble the electronics hardware, utilizing a self-directed work team that has been trained and empowered not only to build quality into the product but to inspect, verify, and accept it, utilizing the `buddy system´ approach. Results are improved quality and reduced labor costs
