  • Abstract
The threat of mobile viruses is important problem that needs to be addressed in the near future. There has been a lot of research conducted regarding PC viruses and worms, but very little work has been done concerning the same issues in the mobile environment. As of now, mobile viruses have not caused a big problem, however there is future potential for more severe virus attacks that could cause physical damage, denial of service, theft of data or even monetary loss. The limited research that has been done on mobile worm detection has taken the approach of trying to discover viruses that have already infected a device and had a chance to cause damage. In this paper, we present a method of detecting the presence of a mobile virus at the time of infection. An application is developed that takes advantage of the fact that if a virus wishes to survive a device-restart it must "hook" onto a point in the operating system that will automatically launch it. User will be given an alert whenever an application tries to hook into auto-start.
