Abstract
This paper presents a systematic performance comparison of reflectarray elements with different shapes. Four parameters are defined as "figures of merit" of the element performance the range of the reflection phase (i.e., the maximum phase variation), the sensitivity to mechanical tolerances, the bandwidth, and the cross-polarization level. Both classical shapes (like rectangles, dipoles, and rectangles with tuning stubs) and a novel ridge shape are analyzed and compared.
