Abstract :
In this paper, the effect of the chassis length on the overall performance (including bandwidth, radiation efficiency, and specific absorption rate (SAR) characteristics) of the combination of an internal shorted patch-type mobile phone antenna and phone chassis is studied with simulations. The bandwidth characteristics are studied in free space using a MoM-based commercial simulator with phone models that have been validated with measurements. The effect of the chassis length on the SARs and radiation efficiency is determined when the phone models are in actual handset use position beside an anatomical heterogeneous head model. These simulations have been performed with a commercial FDTD software.
