Abstract :
In this paper, a novel antenna design has been proposed to achieve simultaneous increase in gain and bandwidth of a microstrip patch antenna by suppression of surface wave losses by drilling holes [1] in the substrate and improving the bandwidth by using multiple layer dielectric. In this way, improvement in gain is achieved by creating electromagnetic band gap structures and increase in bandwidth is attributed to use of a multiple layer dielectric substrate.
