Abstract
Standard general purpose 50/60/400 Hz power supplies use voltage source inverters (VSIs) to create an AC voltage bus for a variety of applications. The proposed voltage regulated current source inverter (VR-CSI) offers similar performance to VSIs. It is shown that it can maintain balanced sinusoidal voltages for the two extreme cases of nonlinear and unbalanced loads. Added advantages include regenerative capabilities, inherent short circuit protection and increased reliability resulting from the current source structure. Voltage controller design considerations and simulation and experimental results on a 2 kVA unit are presented
