Abstract :
This paper gives a design of a KWH meter based on a microcontroller which is more accurate and economical than the electromechanical meters and proposes a model system for billing in which the utility company can directly monitor and control electrical power supply of its spatially distributed consumers without employing any meter readers. Using this metering system the utility company can incorporate multiple rate billing for electricity. The paper proposes a billing system for single-phase meters of distributed clients. Each meter is capable of transmitting its measured value to a master device that processes it for billing. Also the master device is capable of disconnecting or resuming the electric supply of any of its customers remotely if the bill is not paid for a long time or the customer is caught in electricity theft.
