Abstract :
User-oriented QoS-provisioning is a major problem in enterprises that run a huge number of applications using a computer network. Current approaches that try to improve the level of QoS provided by a computer network just focus on the compliance with technical aspects of QoS. The user-experience and also business objectives, which depend on business processes and the dynamic behavior of the user, are mostly neglected in the QoS-provisioning process, although they should drive the provided level of QoS. It is obviously hard to combine business aspects with technical aspects of QoS because of their different objectives. Therefore, a solution for QoS provisioning that can be seamlessly integrated into existing QoS architectures in collaboration with an enterprise internal business process management may improve the user-experience and support to achieve business objectives. We present a novel framework that allows the dynamic handling of network traffic according to business as well as technical aspects. Furthermore, we present a prototype showing that our business knowledge-based framework helps to map business objectives onto the QoS-provisioning process and improves the users´ experiences.
