  • Abstract
The United States Air Force (USAF) will be replacing the T-37 aircraft and its supporting courseware and Aircrew Training Devices (ATDs) with a new aircraft and a complete Ground-Based Training System (GBTS). This paper reports on the methodology used to perform a Training System Requirements Analysis (TSRA) that evaluated existing and advanced training technologies and matched those technologies to a set of validated training objectives. It describes the employment of an Instructional System Design (ISD) process as a means of defining the Job Performance Requirements (JPRs). The process of identifying performance-based flight training objectives and knowledge-based academic objectives is discussed and the approach used to select a set of GETS hardware and software is presented. The use of information on student flow, flying schedules, length of training days, and available facilities to scope and develop the concept are also presented. A description of how all of the above was used to produce a syllabus of instruction is then provided. Finally, the use of a Training Management System (TMS) to provide course control, courseware modification, and information to assist scheduling, record-keeping, and decision-making is presented
