Abstract :
The Euroball is a sensitive 4π Gamma-Spectrometer based on Ge crystals built by a collaboration of several European Physics Research Institutes. The Spectrometer´s main detector will provide an effective trigger rate between 40kHz and 100kHz and will achieve a total data bandwidth of 30MByte/s. The front-end analog electronics is based on VXI crates. The full system comprises nine VXI crates (without Ancillary Detectors), where three groups of three VXI crates are connected to three Front-End systems via high speed ECL buses. The data transmission from the Dual-Port Memory system and the Event Building happens through a FibreChannel network and its Switching Fabric. To buffer the data from the front-end electronics and to prepare the FibreChannel blocks a mezzanine system with Digital Signal Processor (DSP) driven Dual-Port-Memory (DPM) has been developed
