Abstract
This paper presented a novel adaptive finite element segmentation algorithm to extract pattern structures within a jacquard image. Considering the important role of a discrete finite element approximation method for phase field model, a mesh adjustment procedure was deployed to characterize the essential contours of jacquard patterns. A numerical algorithm was proposed to find the minimum of the discrete version of phase field model on adaptive finite element spaces. Experimental results on synthetic and jacquard images have shown the effectiveness and robustness of the algorithm.
