Abstract
The good time and position resolution of the resistive plate counter (RPC) make it on attractive detector for muon trigger system of collider experiment. The standard gas mixture (Ar:68%, +iso-C4H10:30%, +Freon:2%) used for RPC is very flammable when leaked into air. In view of safety issues, we have been studying Ar+CO2+iso-C4H10+Freon gas mixture as a function of ratio Ar:CO2 and with the maximum iso-C4H10 allowed in non-flammable gas mixture for ABS electrodes. The main characteristic of the various mixture have been measured: single count rate versus high voltage and counting efficiency. We have found a set of non-flammable mixture of the kind of Ar+CO2 +Freon containing less than ~8.4% of iso-C4H10 for muon counter of KEK-B
