Abstract
The paper focuses on QoS issues in the residential broadband network, specifically in the context of ATM video-on-demand type services. The paper analyzes the quantitative elements of quality of service (QoS) for video-on-demand from an end-to-end perspective and highlights network elements that contribute to QoS degradation in the context of commitments to the end customers. In addition, requirements for reliable behavior are identified for the implementation of key network elements: the end user set top box, the connection management system, and video encoders and decoders
