Abstract :
A novel cavity-backed slot antenna is proposed and experimentally studied. The antenna consists of a slot cut in a ground plane and backed by shorting strips, forming a backing cavity. Preliminary results based on a prototype show a 2:1 VSWR input impedance bandwidth of more than 20%, which can be further enhanced. The antenna allows an efficient excitation by coaxial or strip lines from either side of the ground plane.
