Abstract :
This paper presents an overview on the evolution of the application of electrical and automation technologies in the industrial processes, with more details in the hot rolling mills for metals. Different aspects are taken into consideration, like electrical motors, power electronics, process control and information management. Finally, a proposal of a target framework for the future possible applications matching the present needs of industries, like improvement of production procedures and energy saving. Rather than going into deep details, the aim is to bring to the surface a certain amount of topics in order to support future actions requested by industries managers as well by electrical and automation companies.
