Abstract :
This paper presents studies on the influence of Distributed Generation (DG) on congestion management with a proposed `Line loading Index´. Specific grid locations are examined to study the influence of DG penetration on congestion. From competitive electricity market standpoint, DGs have great value when they reduce line congestion and improves bus voltage profile of most congested buses in particular locations and at particular times when feeders are heavily loaded. A case study on modified IEEE 14 bus test system indicates that the penetration of distributed generators can be an effective solution to reduce of power losses. The influence of DG on bus voltage profile and line losses has also been demonstrated in a modified IEEE 14 bus test system.
