Abstract :
A single nerve fiber from the sciatic nerve of a frog is presented as an isolated tissue model for neural trauma. An experimental system that delivers a controlled high-strain-rate uniaxial displacement pulse to the single fiber is described. The use of the system to study the effects of rapid stretch on the nodal regions of a myelinated nerve is discussed
