Abstract :
This paper analyses the effect of voice transport over asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) adaptation layer 1 (AAL1) technology when ATM-based echo cancellation is used. The effects of cell delay variation (CDV) and cell loss are analysed and simulated on an NLMS-based (Normalised least mean squared) echo canceller. These results demonstrate that it is important for an ATM-based echo canceller to process not only ATM-layer functionality, as proposed previously in the literature, but also a limited number of ATM adaptation layer 1 (AAL1) functions
