Abstract :
The design patent map analysis has become a product competition analysis tool in past years. The design patent map system involving experts´ comments in the database requires high computations for on-line patent analysis. Cloud computing provides scalable and pervasively accessible capability of cloud computing resources, and can be leveraged to tackle the multi-users patent map analysis which requires high computation. In this paper, we design and develop a cloud patent map system with the activity-based provision mechanism to efficiently scale up and down the number of virtual machines in a cloud platform. Then we prototype a cloud patent map system as a case study to verify and analyze the proposed mechanism. The results of the experiments indicate that our proposed mechanism enormously improved the time performance compared with the hardware resource utilization-based scaling mechanisms.
