Abstract :
The problem of aseptic loosening of implants is addressed. A computer-tomography technique that is used to obtain detailed information about the anatomy of femora is described. The geometrical results from 209 human femora are presented. Three normalized cross sections obtained from an analysis of the femora at equivalent locations are shown. The data can be used to develop endoprostheses with higher long-term stability or to increase knowledge about the biomechanics of the femur
