Abstract :
The vision of vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure integration is not new. Since the start of intelligent transport systems transport professionals have envisaged the world of free-flow information and systems to make our daily lives simpler, our journey´s faster, safer and more reliable. But this vision and dream has evaded our reality, until now. Jack Opiola will share with the audience bold new communications technologies and standards that are emerging around the globe to realize the dream of the ITS visionaries. Previous programs have demonstrated the possibility of running smart cars on smart highways. However, lacking a profitable business case and strong political base, these programs have not developed beyond the demonstration stage, and even then these programmes were limited in scope. What do we know from our previous experience with automated highway programs, and what does that suggest for the future of vehicle and infrastructure integration? Join policy makers, researchers, and evaluators to learn more about the evolving, provocative and promising ITS vehicle communications program emerging in the months ahead.
