  • Abstract
Summary form only given. Power scaling of CW diode pumped lasers is plagued by thermal aberrations. We present a novel power scaling method using the benefits of bright pumping to achieve high brightness in an oscillator and high gain in a CW amplifier. The Nd:YVO/sub 4/ laser oscillator is pumped by two 30 W high-brightness diodes capable of maintaining a collimated 400 /spl mu/m pump spot over the 4 mm length of the gain medium, giving high gain.
