Abstract
There are many different powertrain configurations or architectures under consideration and development for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) at present. This presentation examines these architectures, classifies them and discusses possible applications along with the pros and cons of each group of configurations. Actual examples of HEV architectures are also reviewed to establish trends in vehicle manufacturers across different vehicle segments, and likely explanations for the choices considered. Finally, a simulation model is introduced which will assess each of the architectures discussed, and help assess the sizing and cost implications of the associated components.
