Abstract :
Scientific and earth observation instruments of ESA/ESTEC as MASTER, PLANCK and HERSCHEL are working in the sub-millimeter wave frequency range. For detection of RF parameter of the instruments, a study named ADMIRALS was carried out. The main objectives were to identify the most suitable RF test facility, to procure transmit and receive modules as well as an antenna with electrically large aperture and finally, to perform measurements. The CCR 75/60 of EADS Astrium GmbH, Ottobrunn, was selected for a first facility calibration and subsequent pattern measurement and verification with a Representative Test Object (RTO). The RTO mainly consists out of an offset reflector antenna with an aperture of 1.5 m in diameter. The measurements were performed in different frequency bands between 200 and 500 GHz. The mm-wave transmit and receive modules were designed, manufactured and tested by Radiometer Physics GmbH (RPG). A cost efficient design was achieved by a modular concept. Within this paper, the design and realization as well as most characteristic performance parameter of the modules will be presented.
