Abstract
A new method has been developed for the characterization of the charging capacity of an insulator. This method is supported by analytic and numeric calculation and gives important information on intrinsic parameters of insulation: dielectric constant, secondary electron yield and critical electric field which leads to detrapping of charge. These parameters have been recognize by Blaise (1993) as being breakdown relevant parameters. The dielectric constant and the secondary electron yield can be respectively calculated and measured in a mirror experiment. The critical detrapping electrical field requires more numerical calculations which are under way
