Abstract :
Fully functional large-scale navigation simulator has become a very effective practice method and mean in term of maritime teaching and training. However, it cannot provide all seafarers and students with sufficient time for studying and training. In contrast, web based simulators attracts great attentions recently due to their ability of dealing with concurrent requests and simple operation. Nowadays, many fields have achieved great breakthroughs in web based simulation, but very few studies have been conducted on the research of web based navigation simulator so far, which are developed with Java3D. In this article, several key modules in the visual system of navigation simulator developed by Java3D were studied, in particular loading models of ports and ships, wave effect, sky effect, sunlight effect. Finally, a base system of browser runnable web based navigation simulator was designed and constructed.
