Abstract
Summary form only given. In this paper we report the development of a high average power solid state laser capable of producing over 17 W (TEMoo) of output power at 351 nm. Intracavity third harmonic generation technology was used in the high power dual head Nd:YLF laser to produce stable UV output in a nearly diffraction-limited beam. The CW output from this laser at 1053 nm wavelength was >50 W. The laser was then acousto-optically Q switched, which provided pulsed output at repetition rates of 0-10 kHz, with pulse width /spl sim/150 ns at 1 kHz. Maximum energy per pulse achieved at repetition rates <1 kHz was 22.4 mJ.
