Abstract :
The bin packing problem is often run into during the management of logistics operation. The paper studies the three-dimensional single container packing problem. To begin with, the formulation of the problem is proposed. Secondly, an integrated approach is put forward, Based on the combination of the wall-building method and the caving degree method. The container firstly is decomposed into several layers into which an goods is packed according to its caving degree. Then, the rules of determining depth of layers and selecting the goods are presented. Finally, the experiment with the LN instances shows the proposed approach can solve the problem effectively and efficiently.
