Message from general chair

We welcome all the participants and speakers of the Eighth International Conference on Advances in Pattern Recognition (ICAPR 2015) to the campus of India Statistical Institute in Kolkata. Electronics and Communication Sciences Unit (ECSU) of the Institute is organizing the current edition of the well-known ICAPR during the period 5th to 7th January 2015 after a long gap of five years. A pre-conference tutorial is also arranged on the 4th January 2015 to start off the event. During these five years computer science and technology have witnessed phenomenal growth, particularly in the area of computational intelligence including pattern recognition, and speech, image and video processing. Prof. P.C. Mahalanobis founded Indian Statistical Institute to play a pioneering role in the area of theoretical and applied research. The institute has attracted engineers and scientists from the various disciplines to work together in the said field. Previous editions of ICAPR have acted as a platform for the presentation and exchange of ideas in different aspects of pattern recognition. I am sure that the eighth ICAPR won´t be any exception.
