Abstract :
18 meat samples of different edible animal species from crustacean, fish, birds and mammals were collected for laboratory studies from the different markets of Pakistan. Among crustacean, fish, birds and mammals the highest and lowest % water content was found in Dumba (Ovis orientalis punjabiensis) and Aceel fowl (Gallus gallus). The highest and lowest % protein content was found in Salmon (Oncorhynchus sp) and Mahseer (Tor putitora). The highest and lowest % lipid content was found in Mahseer (Tor Putitora) and Salmon (Oncorhynchus sp). The highest and lowest % ash content was found in Tilapia (Oreochromic mossambica) and Pamphret (Pampus argenteus) respectively. Economically among crustacean, fish, birds and mammals the cheapest source of protein was found as Tilapia (Oreochromic mossambica) and Dhambra (Labeo rohita).
