Software migration of telecommunication network management systems to the Web using CORBA and Java

The recent technological advances in the World Wide Web arena with hypertext capable browsers along with the widely available client server technology has created a new approach to software development in the telecommunication network management industry. Traditionally, network capacity planning and delivery and network information technology software has been custom developed due to the nature of the business. With ubiquitous Web use at work and home, access to application software via this media is a reasonable expectation. Software availability for telecommunication network on an intranet basis is cost effective, secure, efficient and widely accessible. The paper discusses the migration of an application currently in use for the management of a telecommunication network to the Web along with use of various technologies such as Java, CGI with perl interface to Oracle RDBMS, integration of Java and CGI, TCP/IP sockets, and CORBA and their benefits and shortcomings
