Abstract :
Summary form only given. Multiwavelength optical sources are important components in applications such as optical communications, optical remote sensing, and optical data processing. In recent years, external cavity laser diodes with biperiodic binary gratings and distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers with periodically modulated gratings have been used to generate multiwavelength outputs. In this work, we report simultaneous, dual-wavelength operation of InGaAs-GaAs asymmetric cladding ridge waveguide (RW) DBR lasers with mode pair separations of 4.1 nm, 8.4 nm, and 16.9 nm. To achieve simultaneous, dual-wavelength operation, the asymmetric cladding RW DBR lasers reported here utilize two sections of separate uniform gratings instead of periodically modulated gratings. Thus, the gratings design, electron beam (EB) lithography, and fabrication processes are simplified.
