Abstract
Cross-acceptance for railway equipment, although not regulated in the "pre-CENELEC era", was common practice. The main prerequisite for cross-acceptance at that time was the specialist know-how of the manufacturers and railway authorities. The basic principles and lessons learned from the cross-acceptance of signalling equipment in that era are presented here for typical products of the Rail Automation Division of Siemens Transportation Systems.
