Abstract :
Data from 130 consecutive patients undergoing general anesthesia in one of the day surgery operating rooms of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania were collected and filed for subsequent evaluation. The data indicate that a validation process could eliminate a substantial portion of both cautions and alarms. It was possible to validate 75% of all warnings and to invalidate 12%. This translates to a potential reduction from one audible alarm every 4 min to one every 16 min
