Abstract
As the codebook size gets larger, the system performance improves due to the decreased quantization error, but the computational (search) complexity grows exponentially. In order to overcome the complexity problem, codebooks with hierarchical structure have been studied intensively. In this paper, we analyze performance of the hierarchical codebooks mathematically.
