Abstract
The development of reduced snap-back rope has been a continuous activity at Whitehill Mfg. Corp. Since the early 1980s. A summary of fundamental theories and some initial testing was presented at MTS in 1992 by A.S. Whitehill and P.M. Allan. The original test program included periodic break testing of lines in service for three years. As an update to this program, data from ropes that have been in service for 7 years on the USS Mississippi is now available. The results indicated strength retention up to 76% of the original strength of the rope. In addition, none of the samples recoiled at failure
