Abstract :
A feasible conceptual design is one of the key technologies of a large deployable mesh antenna. We present here a conceptual design for a long flexible beam in space environment, aiming to develop a huge deployable mesh antenna with a diameter of 100 m. Based on an original conceptual design with a very simple structure, dynamic simulations of the flexible beam are carried out. Through mathematic simulations, reasonable values are obtained. Feasible values of the parameters reveal that it is possible for our novel idea to form a desired parabola by a flexible beam and a flexible cable with acceptable mass and precision in space environment. This conclusion can advise us for further detailed design
