Abstract :
Summary form only given. To the best of our knowledge this is for the first time that luminescence of erbium implanted As/sub 2/S/sub 3/ planar waveguides is reported. The low phonon energies of this glass matrix together with its high refractive index allows for very good active properties. These preliminary results are very encouraging and we will continue the characterization of the films. The fabrication of channel waveguides, necessary for the realization of optical amplifiers, was already demonstrated and will be the next step.
