Abstract :
It has been shown that the Internet environment has rapidly changed from fixed to mobile one with the wide popularity of smart phones and the emergence of various wireless/mobile networks. Thus, in research community there has been a consensus that separating Identity (ID) from Locator (LOC) is a one promising concept to address intrinsically such a change. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model to analyze the average total cost for ID/LOC separation schemes and analyze the packet delivery cost using the proposed model for cost-effectiveness of ID/LOC separation schemes in supporting mobility, where reliable packet delivery and local caching mechanism are assumed. We provide a factor of packet delivery cost for cost-effectiveness of ID/LOC separation schemes comparing to mobile IP.
