Abstract
In order to improve the delay performance of CFDAMA (combined free/demand assignment multiple access) protocol with ON-OFF traffic, a novel satellite multiple access scheme called CFDAMA-CFA, employing the combined weighted/round robin free assignment strategy, is proposed in the paper. The delay performances between CFDAMA-CFA and CFDAMA-PA were compared by computer simulation. Simulations were carried out with IPP (interrupted Poisson process) and IFP (interrupted fluid process) traffic. Simulation results demonstrate that compared to CFDAMA-PA protocol, CFDAMA-CFA achieves a lower delay and meets a much lower delay constraint
