Abstract :
Monitoring methods relating to the service levels provided to subscribers of second and third generation mobile networks have traditionally focused on a mixture of simulation and "drive testing". This approach, while it has served its purpose, has proved inefficient and arguably inadequate. The system outlined in this paper proposes placing a small monitoring application on the subscriber\´s terminal in order to enable regular sampling of call parameters during all voice calls. On call termination, the user is also prompted for a "call score" which is based on the mean opinion score (MOS) rating. This information is then automatically transferred to a network database in order to allow the network operator to review and analyze customers experience in specific cells or for specific subscribers or groups of subscribers
