Abstract
The two-state DC-DC converter is studied based on an exact nonlinear difference equation. This difference equation is evaluated using a finite series approximation, resulting in an iterative map which is quadratic in the control parameter. Enforcing periodicity on this map yields a steady-state equation on which a review of the steady-state behavior of this class of converters is based. The converter circuit is examined from an entirely nonlinear standpoint. This study leads to a nonlinear feedback algorithm which is suitable for controlling the two-state DC-DC converter under a wide fluctuation of variables about their operating values. This algorithm follows from a close approximation to an exact equation describing the system, and represents an improved method for regulating this class of converters
