Abstract :
One of the main issues in evaluating the applicability of block coded modulation (BCM) for cellular communications is equalization, which is necessitated by delay spread caused by the channel. In this paper, we present a combined equalization and decoding (CED) algorithm for BCM schemes. The equalization is done via ISI cancellation using past decoder decisions. Using performance simulations, it is shown that CED algorithms are insensitive to the different delay spread conditions. Using pre-detection antenna selection diversity with the CED algorithm, performance improvements of 4-5 dB are demonstrated at a BER level of 1.0 E-03
