  • Abstract
Over the past decade there has been significant rising of the use of Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) to reduce communication costs. This paper describes a VoIP based solution designed for the use over a campus environment taking in consideration context and architecture of computer networks: Local Area Network, Personal Area Network, Campus Area Network, Wireless Local Area Network, Metropolitan Area Network and Wide Area Network. For the concerned campus, the operating costs of phone systems take a large part of the budget and the proposed solution is designed to carry all telephony signals by offering a new communication tool in which data packet streams are transmitted over IP. Like a standard SIP server, this economic solution is a IP software but can act at the same time as a phone gateway for the phone system. We will present the central servers for two of campus of University of Moncton along with the administrational functions. After that, the tests that have been made on base of these servers will be discussed as another part of this paper.
