Abstract
In this paper we optimized a ten element linear infinitesimal dipole array for the near-field generation of a Gaussian beam. The amplitude and phase weights on the linear dipole array are optimized via a genetic algorithm to provide the closest match to a Gaussian profile. A Gaussian profile is synthesized at a distance of 0.5 wavelengths to 50 wavelengths away from the broadside of the antenna system.
